Do You Support a Tax on Cosmetic Procedures?
Closed Published by newseditor December 1st, 2009 in In the MediaWe made this poll to get an idea of what patients and non-surgeons think of the proposed “Botax” or elective cosmetic medical tax, because for the most part, that’s who could end up paying for it.
As posted last week, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as other groups like the ASAPS and AACS, have spoken publicly against the proposed tax and published very convincing arguments to support that position.
Unfortunately, our patients aren’t unified and therefore, they won’t have that much lobbying power to stop this tax. As Dr. Steven Teitelbaum tells the New York Times, “You’re not going to have a million-man Botox march.”
So what do you think? Is a tax on cosmetic surgery the right way to pay for healthcare reform?
